How to play
You steer a snake around a grid and eat the food that appears on it. Every piece of food adds a segment and shaves 2ms off the frame time, so the game accelerates from 100ms per step down to a floor of 55ms. The run ends the moment the head hits a wall or its own body.
- Arrow keys — turn up, down, left or right. A turn that reverses into the neck is ignored.
- W, A, S, D — the same four directions.
- Space — pause and unpause a running game.
- Swipe on the board — a swipe of more than 20 pixels turns the snake that way.
- On-screen arrow pad — four direction buttons shown on phones and tablets.
- Start, Pause and Reset — begin a run, freeze it, or clear the board.
Scoring
Gold food is worth 10 points. About three times in ten the food that spawns is bonus food instead: it pulses in pink, pays 30 points, and vanishes after 5 seconds. Eating again within 3 seconds raises a combo that adds 2 points per step above 1x and caps at 5x, so a maxed combo adds 8 on top. High score and games played are kept in your browser; signing in also banks coins and XP.
Tips
- Circle the outside and keep the middle clear. A snake coiled along the edges always has an exit.
- Only chase pink food that is within about five seconds of travel. Losing the run for 30 points is a bad trade.
- The combo window is 3 seconds, so plan the next route while you are still eating.
- Speed only ever rises, so the turns that kill you late are ones you made comfortably at the start. Turn earlier than feels necessary.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my turn not register?
The game refuses a direction that reverses the snake into itself. If you are moving right, pressing left does nothing; go up or down first.
Do I need an account to play?
No. The game is fully playable as a guest and your high score is kept in your browser. Signing in adds coins, XP and a leaderboard place.
Can I play this on a phone?
Yes — on a touch screen the game shows on-screen buttons, and games played with a mouse work by tapping.
