A 16 by 16 board hides 40 mines. Reveal every square that is not a mine and you win; reveal a mine and the board opens up to show them all and the game is over. A revealed square shows how many mines touch it, counting all eight neighbours, and a square touching none clears its neighbours automatically, which is how large areas open at once.
There is no point total. Your result is the time in seconds, and the clock starts on your first reveal rather than when the board appears. Mines are also placed on that first click, and never in the square you clicked or the eight around it, so the opening move is always safe and usually opens a sizeable area. The Mines figure stays at 40 and Flags counts how many you have placed, which is a self-check rather than a score.
No. Mines are placed after that click and are kept out of the square you chose and its eight neighbours.
No. The game is won when every square that is not a mine has been revealed, however many flags you placed.
Yes — on a touch screen the game shows on-screen buttons, and games played with a mouse work by tapping.
